Creighton and Fine Gael embarrass Ireland

The Washington Times newspaper has picked up on anti-American sentiment in the Irish Lisbon Treaty referendum in a front page article ahead of Bertie Ahern's address to Congress Today.

The Times refers to comments by Fine Gael deputy Lucinda Creighton last week, who claimed that the US opposed the Lisbon Treaty. The paper says her comments "cast a shadow" over the Taoiseach's visit to the US.

Massive admission by Roche in Irish Times

Dick Roche has admitted that no further referenda are needed to change the contents of the Lisbon Treaty, according to a report in the Irish Times this morning.

According to John Downes and Mary Fitzgerald, writing on page 9 of this morning's Times, Minister Roche told the Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Affairs that areas of decision making currently under unanimity could be surrendered to Brussels based on the approval of the Dáil and the Seanad.

This means that important areas of policy competence could be handed over to Brussels without need for a further referendum.

Creighton comments shameful

"Today , Lucinda Creighton has exemplified what so many people in this country hate about Politics.

Before we say anything more, we want to state that Libertas is calling on Enda Kenny to immediately explain whether he endorses Deputy Creighton's comments.

We believe that he should immediately ask her to apologise, and publicly reprimand her.

Instead of engaging in the debate on the Lisbon Treaty in any kind of meaningful way, she has decided to try, in a most amateurish fashion, to knee-cap her opponents.
