Czechs call for slow-down on ratification process

The Czech Government has called into question the rate at which the EU is trying to get the European Constitution Reform Treaty ratified by all memberstates.

Alexander Vondra, the Czech Minister for EU Affairs has said that getting the treaty ratifed in 12 months is “record tempo” rather than the 24 months normally allowed for ratification.

This is not the first time the Czechs have expressed concerns about the timetable, but many EU leaders want the treaty ratified before the European Parliament elections, timetabled for June 2009.
