The Danish government has announced it will begin to review the European The review, which is known as a ‘paragraph 20 examination’ will look at whether or not a referendum is required on the treaty. Under the Danish constitution, any change in soverignity must be agreed to by the people by referendum. The Danish foreign minister, Per Stig Møller, has said that if sovereignty is affected, there will be a referendum. At the moment, Ireland is the only country in the European Union that will definitely have a referendum (to take place next summer). |
