A Bad Deal for Ireland: A Bad Deal for Europe
Ireland's voice weakened | The Lisbon Treaty - A Bad Deal for Ireland: A Bad Deal for Europe - Ireland’s Voice Weakened |
|
4. Ireland’s Voice Weakened The Treaty proposes that the number of commissioners be reduced to two-thirds of the member states. This means that for five years out of every 15 , Ireland will be without a commissioner. That means we will have no voice at the table where legislation is proposed. Also proposed is a new President of the European Council to replace the current system of rotating member state presidencies meaning Ireland loses the ability to host high profile agenda-setting summits as it has done in the past. |
